Academic, Research and Training Unit (ART)
The Academic, Research and Training Unit (ART) is a dedicated initiative promoted by the Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya Complexes with the twin purpose of strengthening teacher capacity and ensuring the academic readiness of students across CBSE schools in Kerala. ART serves as the professional development arm of the Confederation, aligning its vision and activities with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly Clause 5.15, which emphasizes the importance of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for teachers. With education undergoing constant transformation through new pedagogies, digital tools, and competency-based approaches, teachers are expected to stay prepared and adaptive. ART addresses this expectation by creating structured opportunities for educators to upgrade their knowledge, refine classroom practices, and share innovations with peers. Training programs under ART are designed with clear learning outcomes, interactive strategies, and strong practical relevance. This ensures that the sessions move beyond theory to directly support teaching quality and learner achievement. For students, ART takes responsibility for ensuring academic readiness through the Common Model Examinations for Classes X and XII. These examinations simulate the CBSE board exam environment, standardize academic challenge across schools, and provide a reliable measure of student preparedness. Practice with well-designed model papers, coupled with timely feedback, allows learners to strengthen confidence, close learning gaps, and approach board examinations with clarity. Teachers also gain insights into student performance that can guide remedial instruction and targeted interventions. The functions of the Academic Unit within ART extend beyond examinations and training programs. It undertakes curriculum research, prepares academic resources and model question banks, supports schools in implementing competency-based assessments, and promotes innovation in pedagogy. It also facilitates collaborative studies across Sahodaya complexes, generating data-driven insights that inform school-level planning. Through research initiatives, ART contributes to identifying challenges faced by CBSE schools in Kerala and developing practical solutions. The combined focus on teacher development, student preparedness, and academic research makes ART a comprehensive platform for continuous improvement. Teachers who engage in ART programs become more effective in delivering competency-based education, while students benefit from both enhanced instruction and structured assessment opportunities. The academic unit, by integrating training, research, and examinations, strengthens the foundations of quality education across member schools. ART embodies the spirit of the Sahodaya movement, demonstrating how collective effort can uplift entire learning communities and ensure that both teachers and students are prepared for the evolving demands of education.
